Privacy policy

Last reviewed

This privacy policy explains what happens to your information when you use CalcFoundry, so you know where things stand before you create an account or type numbers into a calculator.

You can use a calculator that has been embedded on another website, or opened from a shared link, without giving us anything at all - the figures you type in are worked out in your own browser rather than sent to us or stored on our servers. The CalcFoundry workspace is different: it needs an account, and buying calculator access involves billing.

Below you will find what we collect in each case, what is collected automatically, the cookies we set, the providers the service relies on, how long we keep things, and your rights under the Privacy Act 2020 to ask what information is held about you and have it corrected. There is a short note on children's use of the site, and how to contact us with any privacy question.

The short version

  • Running a calculator needs no account. The figures you type in are worked out in your own browser - they are not sent to us or stored on our servers.
  • Using the CalcFoundry workspace, buying calculator access or applying for membership does need an account, and we hold the details you give us for those.
  • We do not run advertising on this site, and we do not use analytics or third-party tracking. The only cookies we set are the ones that keep you signed in.
  • We do not sell your information to anyone.

Information you give us

You do not need to give us anything to run a calculator. You do give us information when you set up an account or use the parts of the service that need one:

  • Your account: your email address and password, plus a display name and profile image if you choose to add them. Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider and are never visible to us.
  • Membership applications: your full name and your adviser registration details, such as your FSP number, FAP number, FAP name and aggregator, so we can confirm you are a registered adviser.
  • Billing: subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach our servers. We keep your customer reference and subscription status so we know what your account has access to.
  • Your branding: the logo, colours, business details, disclaimer and contact details you add to your calculators. These are shown publicly on your embedded and shared calculators, which is their purpose.
  • Documents you upload: files you upload to the adviser tools, which may contain your clients' information. Only your account can access them.
  • Messages: whatever you put in the contact form or an email to us, such as your name, email, company, phone number and question, so we can reply. We do not add you to a marketing list.

Information collected automatically

We do not use Google Analytics, advertising networks or any third-party tracking on this site. The only information collected without you typing it is the following:

  • Server logs: our hosting and database providers keep standard web-server logs, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, for security and reliability. Nearly all web servers do this.
  • Embedded calculator checks: when one of your calculators loads on your website, we check the requesting domain against the domains authorised for your subscription. That check records the website address, not the visitor.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website can store in your browser. The only cookies this site sets are the ones that keep you signed in to your account. They are essential to the service - without them you would be signed out on every page.

We set no advertising cookies and no analytics cookies. You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. The calculators will still work, but you will not be able to stay signed in to an account.

Third parties

The service relies on a small number of providers to function. Each operates under its own privacy policy:

  • Supabase: our database, sign-in and file storage.
  • Stripe: payments and subscription billing.
  • Vercel: hosting and delivery of the website.
  • Resend: sending service email, such as replies to your enquiry and account notifications.
  • OpenAI: where you use the AI adviser tools, the text and documents you submit are sent to OpenAI to produce the response. Do not put information into those tools that you are not comfortable sending to a third-party AI provider.

Fonts and code are served from this site rather than from a third-party font or script network, so loading a page does not call out to those services.

How long we keep information

We keep your account details, branding and billing records for as long as your account is open, and for as long afterwards as we need them for tax and accounting obligations.

Documents uploaded to the adviser tools expire automatically six months after upload. Messages you send us are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your question. If you would like your account or your past correspondence deleted, ask us and we will remove it.

Your rights under the Privacy Act 2020

The New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 gives you the right to ask what personal information an organisation holds about you, and to ask for it to be corrected. Contact us and we will tell you what is held against your account, correct anything that is wrong, or delete it where we are not required to keep it.

Children

CalcFoundry is a business tool intended for financial advisers and businesses, and accounts are not directed at children. The calculators themselves can be used by anyone without an account and collect nothing, so a young person using an embedded calculator gives us no information at all.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new review date. Where a change materially affects how we handle your information, we may also tell account holders by email.
